Day 78: Random Song

April 28, 2018 by Vanessa Young in The Writing

Use the shuffle feature on your MP3 player. Write something inspired by the first song you hear.

First song that popped up on my shuffle was Redbone by Childish Gambino.

If you wanna know how the revolution started, it was with a whisper
Another dead black girl
That no one cared about
Except for us

If you wanna know how you lost the war, it was because you underestimated us
You were scared of us yet believed we were weak
Outnumbered and beaten down
We weren't, we just let you think that

If you wanna know how to escape, to run, just know that you can't
We're in the trees, in the wind, in the shadows
We've waited a very long time
For this

If you wanna know what will happen next, you'll just have to wait in anguish
Like we did
For hundreds of years, we waited
In anguish

If you wanna know if it's safe to close your eyes
It's not.
