Day 77: Geography

April 27, 2018 by Vanessa Young in The Writing

Pick a state or country you’ve never visited. Write about why you would or would not like to visit that place.

Ever since I was 9 years old, upon watching my very first anime, I decided I needed to go to Tokyo. Japan in general. That anime was, of course, Sailor Moon. And then Dragon Ball Z. And then Ronin Warriors. And then Gundam Wing. And then Tenchi Muyo! The list goes on and on.

I've always loved the freedom of expression that thrived in the different districts of Tokyo. Something that wasn't necessarily accepted in America. I ravenously follow Tokyo fashion blogs and get inspired by the gothic lolita style that matches my own.

I wanna eat all the food because I LOVE Japanese food. I'm obsessed with Hello Kitty and Japanese has always been a language I've wanted to learn but I'm lazy as hell. I try to not overstep the line between appreciating the culture and fetishizing it which happens A LOT to people.

One day, maybe for my husband and I's 5 year anniversary, we'll head over to the land of the rising sun.
