186. Old Endings Into New Beginnings: Take an old poem, story, or journal entry of yours and use the last line and make it the first line of your writing today.
“I refuse to suffer, I refuse to die.”
Her words reverberated throughout the empty interrogation room. She was talking to herself. The detectives had long left the room. She just kept mumbling nothings into the empty air. They watched her through the two-way mirror, curiously.
“How did she do it?” His bossed asked.
He sighed. “She gouged his eyes out with a pair of gardening shears. Half his face was gone when we found him. She was sitting on their living room couch, drenched in his blood.” He paused and rubbed his forehead.
His partner continued for him. “He had been abusing her. Green card marriage. She needed to be in the States and get out of Russia. He provided her with that life. The honeymoon didn’t last very long before he started beating her. This was her way out, I suppose.”
“I REFUSE TO SUFFER. I REFUSE TO DIE.” The abused killer was shouting now; the same thing over and over again.
187. Longing: Write about something you very much want to do.
I very much want to get more clients to increase my experience and, of course, my revenue. The only thing stopping me is me. I tend to psych myself out and also suffer mildly from Imposter Syndrome. Sometimes I feel like I’m unqualified for everything I do. Which is silly because if that were case I wouldn’t be getting paid for what I do. Anyway, that’s what I’m really wanting right now. I just need to take the extra steps to get it done. I’m just LAZY.
188. I Am: Write a motivational poem or journal entry about positive traits that make you who you are.
I am loud, I am vocal
I am abrasive, I am assertive
I am blunt, I am honest
I am shrewd, I am deliberative
I am stubborn, I am steadfast
I am childish, I am youthful
I am controlling, I am a planner
189. Rainbow: What is at the end of a rainbow?
They’d reached the end and what did they get?
Not a pot of gold, that’s for sure.
The disappointment spread throughout the remainder
Of the adventurers that had come to seek
Treasures at the end of the rainbow.
But here, at the end of the Earth, at the end of the
Technicolored path they’d followed
Was nothing but a green pasture filled with
Daisies and sunshine.
Only one of the adventurers thought of it as
190. Museum: Take some time to visit a nearby museum with your journal. Write about one of the pieces that speaks to you.
We moved amongst the broken neon signs, some still crying out their “Welcome to Las Vegas” message. Their voices are heard, if muddled. We feel welcomed.
