Day 122: Stop and Stare

July 01, 2018 by Vanessa Young in The Writing

Create a poem or story about something you could watch forever.

I could watch superhero stuff forever and ever and ever. I can't even remember the first superhero movie I ever watched. I want to say it was one of the Tim Burton Batman movies. Imagine a small child's impressionable brain after watching all of those movies. Now you have a better understanding of why I am the way I am?

Ha. Ha. Ha.

Anyway.

Superhero movies and now TV shows are something I've been watching my entire life and I have zero desire to lower that consumption. In fact, I want more. Between DC and Marvel and all the other comic book properties out there, this train isn't slowing down anytime soon.

The best part is, we haven't even peaked yet. Now we're finally in the next phase of superhero greatness: women and minorities are leading the charge. This matters for a lot of different reasons, but a big one is diversity of experience and thought. I can't be the only person who's getting tired of the same white dudes having the same stories spread across several different film releases. Check box office numbers from 10 years ago and tell me that's not exactly what we were getting.

The future of the superhero genre is brown and it is female. And that excites me to no end. That is a glow-up I will watch forever.
