Day 63: Spice
Write about flavors and tastes or a favorite spice of yours.
You ever go back home and smell your mom or your grandma's cooking and memories come flooding back? It's like this wonderful, warm blanket that surrounds you and keeps you safe.
I told you before that I cannot live without my Goya Adobo Seasoning. I legitimately put it on everything. Is there a Puerto Rican alive that doesn't? If you answer, that you don't, you are a LIAR. It improves everything.
It's no secret that my favorite kind of food is Latin food: Puerto Rican, Mexican, Cuban, Dominican, Peruvian, Venezuelan, Colombian, you name it. Put a plate of rice, beans, chicharrones and chicken in front of me and I will mainline it like I haven't eaten in years.
Part of why I'm not a huge fan of traditionally "white" foods like German, British, Irish, etc is because...WHERE DA SPICES AT? When I first starting cooking for my husband, he was a little startled by the amount of seasoning I put in my food but he quickly learned to love it as much as me.
The worst thing about living in Columbus is that they're aren't enough Puerto Rican restaurants so when I go back home to Cleveland, I always look forward to my mama's cooking. The way to my heart is through my stomach...with rice and beans.
