Megan Thee Stallion is a Girl's Girl - My Experience at her Las Vegas Concert Stop
First thing I want to say is, I hate going to the Strip as a Las Vegas local. I live in my cozy little neighborhood 20 minutes away and I enjoy it. Having to go the Strip for majority of the artists I want to see is irritating. Especially after COVID when casinos took away a bunch of local incentives making it more expensive to go to the Strip. BUT that’s a whole separate post.
This is about MEGAN THEE STALLION. Seeing her at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Saturday, June 22, was everything I could’ve imagined. I expected a good ass time, but what we got was even better. I’ve seen clips of her performances circulating on social media and it always looked like a blast.
Experiencing it in person completely went above anything I expected. The most impactful thing for me was the environment and the crowd. The crowd was maybe 90% women and queer people. The straight (holding hands with women) dudes I saw were going hard for GloRilla and supporting their ladies going up for Megan. Shoutout to those supportive allies!
Megan’s unfortunately public trauma evidently excised any and all incels from her fanbase. Not a single person made me feel weird or uncomfortable, In fact, I felt fucking thrilled, validated, beautiful the whole night. The entire crowd looked like someone duplicated me, my family and friends and spread them throughout the arena. I have never been that enamored by a group of strangers before.
I’ve been to Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour, I’ve seen Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z, Ye and Britney Spears twice each. I’ve been to almost every single Lady Gaga tour (missed Chromatica because of pregnancy). I’ve been to punk rock, hardcore, metalcore shows, festivals, seen boy bands and girl bands and everything in between. None of those crowds (from what I can remember) matched the vibe I felt at Megan and Glo’s concert in Vegas that Saturday.
Top-tier ass shaking, body acceptance, zero toxic masculinity, lack of elitism, effusive support and praise for strangers; it was a crowd built on loving yourself so confidently it kind of scares people.
GloRilla is a new favorite of mine, I had always heard of her in previous years, but when she dropped ‘Tomorrow 2’ with Cardi B, I started paying attention to her a lot more. She not only has the most Memphis, Tennessee accent to ever exist, she puts on a chaotic, fun ass show, doing her little dance. There was some sound issues in her set, which were cleared up by Megan’s time.
Megan’s set was absolutely perfect. You can tell she’s in her element as a touring artist. Plus the added joy of it being her very first tour and she didn’t have to do it under the thumb of her previous label was evident. When she dropped her series of album covers, I clocked that butterfly egg thing and found a dress to match. I was so happy to see all the butterfly imagery in the show. I was the only person I saw in the crowd with anything butterfly-related, so once again I rule.
Favorite song performances of the night from Megan and Glo (kind of in order of performance): ‘Tomorrow 2’, ‘TGIF’, ‘Wanna Be’, ‘HISS’, ‘Kitty Kat’, ‘Plan B’, ‘Girls in the Hood’, ‘BOA’, ‘Body’. Do you know how hard it is to keep up with Megan’s Flash-fast fucking flow??? I was out of breath by the end of the third song; that girl has breath control like a demigod.
The crowd was completely enthralled and focused on everything Megan did. In lieu of the Vegas Aces or a local rapper she’s cool with, Megan invited a bunch of Hotties on stage for a little twerk session. The body diversity in the crowd is so affirming to be a part of, I can’t say it enough. Megan is a girl’s girl and attracts other like-minded individuals, which is more than I can say for certain other pop singers and rappers.
Next time I see Megan, I would love to see her in California or Houston or somewhere on the East Coast. The experience in Vegas was a blast, but I want to see her in setting that is less tourist-focused. (I previously saw her at the Life is Beautiful festival in Vegas in 2021, which was insane.)
