Writing and Working With a Purpose
I’ve been working in retail marketing for almost 7 years now. My current job is one I’ve been in the longest and I’m in charge of copywriting, editing and digital marketing efforts. Over the years, especially since 2020, I’ve seen so many personal stories and anecdotes from customers telling us how our products have genuinely improved their lives.
This made me rethink some of our content strategies. I recently made a commitment to myself in my professional role that I would focus 50% of our content writing on climate change and how we can impact the environment favorably for one of my brands. Writing about how we can help the planet is a growing passion of mine, even while I’m still learning all the different ways we can help. I also committed to giving product donations as a form of mutual aid support for people working in the cold outdoors, getting chemotherapy, suffering from chronic pain, etc.
You wouldn’t believe how many folks reach out to us needing just a little bit of kindness. Most companies would turn a blind eye or lump their work into once-a-year charities that rarely help the folks they’re supposed to but I’ve seen my company, especially my boss, give to people without asking for anything in return.
But this isn’t even solely why. I’ve become more ingrained in my Vegas community and working with people around the city who are helping those that need it. This has been a massive inspiration to me. Why can’t I use every tool at my disposal to help people?
Since 2020, I’ve been struggling even more with the concept of capitalism being The Savior of a rapidly deteriorating world and the people who suffered the most were getting hit even harder without reprieve. It changed my outlook on a lot of things. My goal is to be able to share the feeling of contentment that I feel with other people. It’s not right that only a handful of people get to be happy and prosperous every day. We all should feel this way.
