Vanessa's Weekly Rants pt. 2: Ray Fisher Was Right! and Other Assorted MCU/Grammys Musings

Last week kicked off with the Grammys 2021, which was a strange situation considering the pandemic. I am honestly so proud of Megan Thee Stallion for being that bitch and knocking down every goal she sets for herself. My only other thought is that, yes, the Grammys are amongst the most rigged award shows out there and it is my least favorite BUT I actually enjoyed this year’s show more than I thought I would. The intimacy and the stripped down performances felt more authentic? I don’t know.

Let’s get to the most important topic: Ray Fisher was MOTHERFUCKING RIGHT. *

*Shout-out to my husband for saying this out loud and giving me a name for this post.

If you haven’t seen Zack Snyder’s Justice League, you about to get into some spoilers!

First of all, the #SnyderCut is miles better than the butchery Joss Whedon gave us a few years ago. Not saying this movie is a “good movie,” just I 100% understand now why Snyder was adamant about finishing the film in his own vision.

This does not excuse the absolute heinous behavior of the Snyder cult. A bunch of harassing, man-babies who can’t stand the idea that people don’t kiss Snyder’s ass. You guys suck. Grow up and get a real life.

Anyway, as I took almost 8 hours to watch this 4-hour fucking film, a lot of things became painfully clear: Ray wasn’t (rightfully) angry that his character’s screen time got reduced, he was angry because:

EVERY SINGLE BLACK AND BROWN PERSON IN THE WHEDON CUT GOT REDUCED OR REMOVED COMPLETELY.

This isn’t even the slightest exaggeration. I am almost shocked at the audacity that Warner Bros. even allowed the Snyder version to be finished and released because it is a HEAVY indictment of Whedon, Geoff Johns, Walter Hamada and the others who had a hand in the behind-the-scenes drama.

WE MISSED OUT ON RYAN CHOI, IRIS WEST, EVERY BLACK AMAZON, DR. ELINORE STONE, THE MARTIAN MOTHERFUCKING MANHUNTER IN JOSS WHEDON’S VERSION OF JUSTICE LEAGUE.

I was already salty when I found out they had removed Iris but my jaw fucking dropped when I saw Ryan and J’onn J’onzz. The fucking buffoonery, the clownery, the gumption, the GALL. But this is how whiteness moves. We just rarely get to see it on this scale.

Ray Fisher was right and he is owed an apology and reparations from alllllll of those assholes. Unfortunately, I don’t see that happening since they already cut Cyborg from The Flash film that’s in-production, so unless the Snyder cult moves like they usually do, Ray’s pretty much done with DC. Will the Snyder cult go hard for a Black man like they did a white dude? Ha. Time will tell.

Last on my list is Marvel’s newest offering post-WandaVision: The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a show I have been super excited about since it was announced! Unfortunately, the first episode did not live up to my long-lived hype.

Seems like this show is just going to be another in the long line of MCU military propaganda projects. I should’ve expected it, but it’s still fucking annoying. However, I will say there are beacons of hope with Sam’s family dynamic and Bucky’s therapy sessions.

I genuinely hope the show focuses on THAT rather than cheering soldiers in deserts they shouldn’t be in. Crossing my fingers for flashbacks to Bucky’s time in Wakanda!
