Day 72: Where That Place Used to Be

Think of a place you went to when you were younger but it now no longer there or is something else. Capture your feelings about this in your writing.

I went to campus on Tuesday to drop off a return package at the little Amazon@Columbus thing. Every time I go to campus, I am struck by how much has changed.

High Street has never looked more crowded and over industrialized.

There's new apartments, dorms, restaurants and bars stacked on top of each other and that's just North campus. The Shell gas station is no more, it's being replaced by yet another multi-use complex. Now I'm the last person to shit on new things and I believe change is good but it's just kind of sad to see how in flux it is.

Campus was my home for four years. I've thrown up in those bushes by the church on the corner of Woodruff and High. I got pepper sprayed by the cops near Pearl Alley during Woodfest. I've gotten Tidal Waved TWICE at what used to be Too's. (RIP Too's which is now Three's but it's not the same.) I used to cut through parking lots to get back to my dorm quick; parking lots that are now high-rise dorms.

It's weird feeling nostalgic about a growing city. That's what cities do, they grow, they knock down the old stuff to build new stuff. I was just struck by the constant change. Every time I go to campus, something new has sprouted up. Anyway, that's kind of how I felt about yesterday when I was walking around on campus. At least Out R Inn is still there...long live Out R Inn!
