Day 43: The Sound of Silence

March 15, 2018 by Vanessa Young in The Writing

Write about staying quiet when you feel like shouting.

I think this a dilemma every woman goes through. Almost every single day.

Any time I experience a microaggression, I want to scream.
Every time someone tries to touch my hair without my permission, I want to yell.
When a guy catcalls me on the street and then calls me a bitch for ignoring him, I want to roar.
When someone cuts me off in traffic, I want to shriek.
Every time my friend gets back with her emotionally abusive ex, I want to howl.
When my husband is upset and can't tell me what's wrong, I want to shout.

Sometimes it's better to stay silent than to raise your voice.
Sometimes.

But sometimes it feels good to holler.
