Vanessa's Favorite Films of All-Time Part Nine: Parasite ( 기생충 )

This blog originally started as a long, long master post of my favorite films but because I like making gifs too much I had to break each movie out into their own films. 😅 What? You’ll read it either way.

Here’s part nine:

Parasite (2019) aka Vanessa’s Reality Check

Parasite (2019) directed by Bong Joon-ho.

Every year, I make it a commitment to watch all of the Oscar-nominated Best Picture nominees to get out of my comfort zone and see what the Elites think we should be watching.

Holy shit.

This movie. I don’t know if any words I write henceforth can do it justice but it blew me out of the fucking water. When I watched it again with my husband for his first time, it blew HIM out of the fucking water. This movie goes from a lighthearted caper with undertones of darkness to a full-blown tragedy based on our own reality’s failures with capitalism.

There’s despair and then there’s nihilism with no hope of return and this films teeters on the edge of it; some might say it went fully there by the end. The only way to guarantee yourself AGAINST failure is to not plan for anything at all, set zero expectations and move about the world like you owe it nothing and vice versa. It’s a path a lot of people end up on because of the way this shit world has been set up since civilizations began sprouting up all over.

Someone has to be a loser for there to be a winner right? But… what if we do away with winners and losers altogether?
