Day 168: Baker's Dozen

Imagine the scents and sights of a bakery and write.

Freshly baked bread always smelled so very, very sweet. He carefully placed the still-warm croissants in the glass display case in front of him. The shop would be opening soon and it was his first time opening by himself. He was very proud of himself even if his mother wasn’t.

He started at the Half-Baked Bakery about a month ago and had already worked his way up to assistant manager…in spite of his horrendous team. They act like animals, simply because this was marijuana-based bakery doesn’t mean the employees should act tactless.

The six person team consisted of himself, a cashier, a part-time girl, two bakers and the manager. The owner left the manager in charge for several months while they opened up another bakery in Colorado. During this time, he felt himself growing more and more impatient with his manager’s leadership style. She never cares when people come and go as long as they “get the job done.” She gives free samples to homeless people, lets the part-time girl have too many personal calls and pokes fun at him for being “too serious.”

Yesterday evening, he snapped at her finally. He was sick of her making him feel inadequate when all he wanted to do was a good job. She told him to watch his tone, so it made her shut up.

She was currently resting in the dumpster in the back, along with his never-satisfied mother. At least they can be disappointed in him together in Hell.

The doorbell jingled. The first customer was here!

“Welcome to Half-Baked, what can we get for you today?”
