The Ferris Wheel spun faster and faster, with cries of joy echoing
In the night.
Children run amok, sticky from cotton candy and drenched in rain
Mothers and fathers, open-mouthed with worry
The revelry reaches a fever pitch
The wind picks up, snaking through the merry-go-rounds
Whipping clothes and discarded trash through the air.
They dance and shout and sing and prostrate beneath the angry skies
The carnival took on an eerie glow and time seemed to slow to a crawl
Mud covered arms and legs stilled in motion
The bacchanal has taken control.
