Dark, quiet, red, knowing, broken

They came right when the dark sky began to fade into light.
She was just dressed in her ruby red cape, styled with a pair
of handcuffs they slapped onto her wrists.

They led her down the long, dark hallway and she could hear the
faint roar of the crowd waiting impatiently for her.
But she felt nothing.

As they entered the Great Hall, everyone went quiet and
looked at her. Some with looks of disgust, others in awe.
She was a vengeful goddess, an evil witch, a crazy pariah, 
an unholy prophet.

She was brought swiftly before the king and queen and shoved
down to her knees in front of them.
She gazed at the queen who was purposely avoiding her eyes.

The king, however, stared straight back at her, broken heart and all.
She gave him a knowing smirk.
"Any last words, harlot?" The king asked.

"May the fire that consumes my flesh light the way," she said and threw her head back in laughter.
