Day 175: All That Glitters

Write about a shiny object.

The glittery lights shot across the dark room like shooting stars. The crowd swayed together almost in unison. Her head rested on his shoulder; she sighed happily. He had to work to keep his face smooth and unpanicked.

Why was he panicked?

Well because he knew, somehow, that every person in this auditorium, including the girl in his arms, was an alien invader hellbent on replacing every human on Earth.

He wasn’t going to let it happen to him. He had to get away from them as quickly as he could without arousing suspicion.

His eyes wandered around the room, as the slow song currently playing came to an end. The “teachers” surveying the dance floor were all near or directly in front of every Exit door. How the hell was he going to manage this?

Bathroom! Every guy’s gotta urinate and he had 3 cups of spiked punch before they even got there.

The song ended and another more upbeat one began immediately.

“Hey,” he shouted over the music. “I’m going to the bathroom real quick! Be right back.”

“Michelle” grabbed him tightly. “Hurry back okay? I wanna keep dancing!” Her face lit up with a smile, he almost bought that she was actually his girlfriend.

He stumbled a little to the Exit door next to the punch table. Two “teachers” glanced over at him but didn’t bother him. He nearly ran to the door, pulled it open and stepped into the hallway. To his right were a row of lockers and the men’s restrooms and to his left were the double doors leading outside.

He stepped towards to the doors but before he could open them, a hand wrapped around the back of his neck and yanked backwards.
